Design synthetic fixtures for disclosure testing

Use representative non-sensitive scenarios that exercise notice states without importing real customer conversations. Includes a free implementation worksheet.

Short answer

Use representative non-sensitive scenarios that exercise notice states without importing real customer conversations. Record what each fixture is intended to test.

When to use this guide

A team copies production chats into its test suite even though the bug concerns only the notice's initial placement.

This is a fictional implementation scenario. The procedure below is Article 50 Hub's suggested working method, not a prescribed legal form, a customer result or a claim that every step is an additional statutory requirement.

Review procedure

  1. Identify the state transition and configuration needed to reproduce the behavior.

  2. Create minimal synthetic text and account data for that state.

  3. Label the fixture with its intended assertion and limitations.

  4. Review fixtures when the product state model changes and remove unnecessary personal-like detail.

What the example review finds

  • The production transcript is unnecessary for the layout test.

  • The fixture no longer reaches the state named in the test.

Keep these example observations separate from your own results. An unknown or untested state should stay open until the relevant evidence has been inspected.

Fields for your working record

  • Fixture purpose

  • Synthetic input

  • Required state

  • Expected observation

  • Maintenance owner

Use the downloadable blank worksheet linked on this page to connect the observed behavior with the deployed system. Add a reviewer, date, evidence reference, unresolved questions and a next action. The worksheet is editable locally and does not upload your records to Article 50 Hub.

Completion and handoff

Close the task only for the scope actually reviewed. Preserve the result that another authorized reviewer can reproduce, identify the owner of remaining work, and record a retest when the implementation changes. A completed worksheet is not a substitute for the underlying evidence.

Decision boundary

Synthetic fixtures improve test hygiene but do not make every production scenario representative or complete.
